The great willow tree

During a walk along the river, I took shelter beneath a great willow.
The wind, setting its leaves into motion, sparked the inspiration for this series.

Conversations

This suite of works draws its inspiration from the forest, the trees, branches and clutter found in a natural forest. The conversations I refer to reflect recent discoveries about how trees communicate with each other. Through their roots, they exchange information useful to their development and survival. The older trees protect the younger ones and help them to grow.

My paintings are an invitation to return to the silence of the forest and listen to the trees. You won’t hear words, but you’ll feel the soothing effect if you pay attention for a while.

The crossing

In this series, color takes center stage. The grayness of the pandemic pushed me into a body of work marked by light and hope, meant to share and ease each person’s journey. Color became the true subject of this series. Inspired by the intricate weaving of branches, I played with layering hues, tones, and shades… Lines and colors come to life, energizing the gaze.

I build color relationships through accumulation, saturation, layering, and spontaneous juxtaposition. Using acrylic in thin washes, I create successive layers on the surface. This process gives rise to plays of light and shadow, subtle depths, and contrasts between saturation and transparency. One can glimpse light filtering through the forest or shimmering on the water’s surface.

Through the branches

I am drawn to the tangled undergrowth of our forests, the thickets of brush, and all those secret and wild  places. These intricate entanglements have a dual effect on me—both captivating and soothing.

With this series of paintings, I seek to recreate these mysterious environments. I am searching for an atmosphere, a mood where the gaze wanders and the soul finds itself. I invite the viewer to pause for a moment, to let their eyes dive into this tangle of branches in search of light.

Ramifications

All life is interwoven into a vast, intangible yet undeniable network: earth and sky, humans and animals, time and silence… In this series, I explore our connection to nature and the ways it resonates within us. How can a simple walk in the forest or a park become a moment of renewal, a space for tranquility?

Though inspired by landscapes, my works depict imagined places. I focus on the intricate entanglement of branches, the wild tangle of undergrowth—metaphors for the invisible ties that connect us and shape our collective identities. These interwoven forms reflect the interactions that structure our daily lives. Finally, I also invite contemplation on the impact of human activity on forests, questioning our role in preserving this delicate balance.

Circle games

These works were created during a residency at the Vermont Studio Centre. Away from my studio, I decided to create with a minimum of materials. My self-imposed challenge was to use only shades of gray and black, with the circle as the only form to be explored.

Light in the night

This “Light in the Night” series is inspired by Galileo’s vision when he first pointed his telescope at the sky. Through the spherical shape of his telescope, he discovered a world in motion, where the earth was no longer at the center of the world. He opened the door to a new dimension of the universe that we’ve been exploring ever since. The more we discover the immensity of the space that surrounds us, the more we realize that we live on an exceptional planet, a miracle of evolution over millions of years.

The series is a journey into this infinite universe, where our gaze wanders into reverie or reflection…

One day, we’ll have to learn how to preserve this planet we call home.
